It was a really lovely route through the Cambrian Mountains - highlights included a lovely tea shed with snacks and drinks and an honesty box, waterfalls and beautiful views throughout! Would defo recommend!...

Slow Ways Saira and I got the midday bus from Aberystwyth to Pontrhydfendigaid, stocked up in the lovely Siop y Bont, and headed off as the first walkers of this superb upland Slow Way....

If it wasn't for the woodland section at the east end it would be cyclable throughout, and there is a Sustrans route that remedies this....

It's a long way, but the combo of back roads and forestry tracks, plus the signposted Wye Valley Walk and later the Borth to Pontrhydfendigaid trail mean that it can be done at a stride a lot of the time which helped me with stamina! More wide forestry tracks heading gently downhill, and then the Borth to Pontrhydfendigaid trail which did take us through a river (the Rheidol?) in bare feet, refreshing and a little slithery but not treacherous and only ankle-high....

It's an easy route to follow and I really enjoyed it, but some people may not be comfortable with all the lane walking....

You can expect lots of (quiet) lane walking, some locked gates, steps, stiles and a shallow river crossing that demands a short shin-high paddle (which we did at night)....

Once leaving the riverside, not long out of Llanilar, either walk through the farm to the road or bypass to the next farm. Issue at beginning and edge of Cnwch Coch, don't attempt to cross the fields using the public footpath as access to the fields is hard from the road (steep bank and no obvious access)....

Really satisfying route although I couldn't walk it in a day and camped overnight by the lake....

One Woman Walks

I walked the middle third of this walk from the Devil's Bridge direction, starting in Goginan and intending to get to Aberystwyth and do the other half later, but found it impenetrable. The wooded bank to the north-west of Goginan was overgrown with gorse and all sorts of other prickes, and as it was December I figured it wouldn't be any better in any other more overgrown month. I wonder if the previous reviewer walked the other direction and found it passable when going downhill.. I tried a couple of workarounds further north over the same bank, but the footpath was blocked by a barbed wire fence which I must mention to the local footpath officer.!...

overall a nice route however there is a section at the start which leads you along a busy main road with no pavement. there is an easy way to avoid this which i will endeavor to suggest as an alternative route...

A really nice selection of different paths, starting with riverside, then farm tracks, then quiet back roads, then a lovely well used wooded walk, turning into presumably the old way to Devil's Bridge, judging by the tree-lined old road we walked alongside....
